#3 Exporting Blu-Ray Discs

Are you creating a project in HD? Want to export it to an HD disc? Well now you can. With Final Cut Pro 7, you can now use the Share function to export a sequence to Blu-ray disc.

Three Blu-ray Export Options

Before we look at how to export a Blu-ray disc, let's define the 3 options of creating a Blu-ray disc in Final Cut Pro 7.

1) Burn to an external Blu-ray disc recorder.

2) Burn a disk image to your hard drive (burn later or elsewhere)

3) Burn disc on internal computer DVD and play on AVCHD–friendly player (not on computer).

Selecting the Blu-ray Option

To export a sequence to Blu-ray, you start by choosing File > Export > Share, or press Shift–Command–E. The Share dialog appears. First choose your destination for the files you'll be exporting. Next, click the Output Type popup menu and choose Blu-ray. Then select the Create Blu-ray disk checkbox to present the action drawer.

Choose Blu-ray from the Output Type Popup

From the Output Device popup, choose how you want to output the sequence. Only the available options will be presented. In this situation, since there is no Blu-ray recorder attached to the system, that option does not appear. You can only burn a disk image to your hard drive or burn a DVD that can play on a Blu-ray player.

You can also choose other options in the Blu-ray action drawer such as template, background, graphics, etc.

Now that you have this option in Final Cut Pro 7, do some tests to see how you like the improved quality of the Blu-ray disc format.
